Farewell, Good night shines as an emotional experience

As the year winds down to its end, I reflect on my vision for my sole game of 2024, “Farewell, Good Night”.

Farewell, Good Night is a 1- or 2-player game about the haunting price of memory, and its precious value in the face of an inevitable medical procedure—electroconvulsive therapy (ECT).

It draws upon my own experiences, the dread that comes with knowing that, despite its life-saving qualities, ECT has a cost. Patients often report losing memory, often for the short-term, but sometimes for the long-term. An effect I knew too well.

Rowan Zeoli, Rascal co-founder, writes about her experience with the game. She says, “[…] I see reflections of my own mind, how it filters through the memories I hold. I have no say in what my mind chooses to cling to, or what it lets pass. I must simply react to what it presents to me.”

Farewell, Good Night is one of my most intimate games, a reflection of circumstances that helped shape me as a person.

Download the game for free at Itch.io. I hope the game inspires a meaningful play experience for you.
