New “deluxe edition” of What Dust Remains launches—adding evocative visuals to an emotional story game

I’m thrilled to launch the Deluxe Edition of What Dust Remains, a story game about legacy, sacrifice, and the lengths we go to find meaning in our lives. Until the end of September 2025, the game is 40% off and all proceeds go to Doctors Without Borders. Learn more and buy the game here.

A few weeks back, I had the privilege of playing What Dust Remains with Vincent Baker (creator of Apocalypse World), Andrea Ricks (Indie Groundbreaker award winner), and Aaron Lim (game designer) that left us in literal tears. The experience unearthed so many questions for us—what does it mean to be vulnerable in games? What happens when we go “all in” in a story game?

Inspired by our play session, I hurried to update the game. Ideas were buzzing in my mind. I knew I had to breathe new life into What Dust Remains, to update it with fresh text and visuals that evoke its sharply melancholic feel.

I think I’ve done exactly just that. I’m very proud of my work.

What Dust Remains has been praised as one of Polygon’s “best tabletop RPGs we played in 2023”, thanks to a very memorable session I ran with Danny Quach. He writes, “Impassioned and intriguing card-prompted questions along with focused, intense moments of dice rolls that helped move the story along, What Dust Remains challenged me to discover, explore, and sit in moments of despair and desperation and had the whole table contemplating what parts of us are we going to sacrifice to leave a legacy that would be bigger than we could ever be behind.”

What high praise! I can only hope the newest edition cements this legacy even further and introduces it to new players.

The sale runs only until 30 September 2025, so this is your best chance to grab a copy. If you enjoyed the new edition, please share your thoughts in the game page—I would love to hear from you!
